How To Comfortably Travel In A Campervan
Summer 2022 might be coming to an end. But that doesn’t mean camping season has to be over! It’s also never too early to prepare for next year. If you’re already a campervan enthusiast, you’re probably already planning. You know there is a lot to consider, even if you’re still a beginner. The heat and the sun, especially when traveling with your family, can become a hassle for campervan travelers. But worry not! Here’s how to comfortably travel in a campervan.
First and foremost, to make the best of your summer camping, you should always park your van in the shade. This will reduce heat and will make your summer van life more enjoyable! Try to keep the sun out as much as possible. It may sound simple, but it can become a bit tricky.
Enjoying the outside is why you’d choose to vacation in a campervan instead of your usual plane transportation. With a shade attachment, you can create your backyard anywhere you go! With thermal insulated blackout curtains, you can block your driver’s cab. Making sure your driver can comfortably drive and keep the van moving should always be your priority.
During the summer, parking smart with no direct sunlight is a must-do. Protection from the direct heat might require changing your position throughout the day. Be mindful of the afternoon sun. To comfortably travel in a campervan, think of your family, but don’t forget your supplies. While keeping the family in the shade, keep your coolers and refrigerators safe from the sun.
But don’t worry too much about the van itself! Try to spend time outside your campervan. Enjoying the natural breeze and keeping the van closed to retain its cooler temperate is just as important. Cooking outside is a great way to keep the campervan cool and enjoy the outdoors. Cooking requires heat and inevitably raises temperatures. Take the opportunity to enjoy the outside cooking over a small fire.
When parking, look for an elevated spot. If possible, one near the coast. You will benefit from cooling sea breezes and a few degrees off. Also, avoid parking on hard or hot surfaces such as concrete or asphalt. For more tips on parking, check out our guide to campervan parking!
Ventilation is key to keeping your campervan cool. It can be as simple as bringing a good fan for the ride. Try to find ones with a minimal power draw that don’t take up too much space. Keep your windows and doors open, always being careful of insects. Don’t forget your bug nets!
To keep bugs out of your campervan, you’ll need bug repellent. You can even use natural oils instead of your usual spray repellent. There are some great ones, like lavender and peppermint oil. Citronella candles work similarly, although they don’t smell as nice.
You don’t need much to comfortably travel in a campervan. Ultimately, it’s all about having fun and enjoying the outdoors with your loved ones!
